Washington Business Journal: The company said Hale, 45, would be the first African-American women in charge of a real estate investment trust. Hale joined RLJ (NYSE: RLJ) as director of real estate and finance in 2005, when it was called RLJ Development. She was promoted to CFO in 2007 and became senior vice president in 2016. She took on the role of COO when Bierkan, formerly the chief investment officer, was promoted to CEO in 2016.
